Orville P. Stadum

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond for Orville P. Stadum, 93, who died Thursday, Aug. 13, at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.

Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Esmond.

Orville was born April 28, 1916, on the family farm in Broe Township, rural Esmond, a son of Carl and Mabel (Ness) Stadum. He attended school in Baker. On June 21, 1947 he married Mabel Tollefson at the Albert Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Maddock. The couple lived in Maddock until 1949, when they rented and later bought his Uncle Peter Stadum’s farm in Isabel Township, rural Esmond. Mabel died on Dec. 8, 2005. Orville moved into the Maddock Memorial Home and lived there until July 2009, when he moved into the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.

Orville was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He served on different local and county boards over the years.

He is survived by three children, Duane of Maddock, Donna Gutschmidt of Devils Lake and Linda Otheim of West Fargo; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest of Fargo; three sisters, Selma Sundet of Maddock, Ina Stadum of Fargo and Elaine Marquette of Milnor.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, Norman and Clifford; and a sister, Mildred.

Pastor Harold Ovre and Pastor Ernest Stadum officiated. Music was provided by Travis Stadum and Rachel Markestad, vocalists, and Jennifer Hagen, organist.

Casketbearers were Travis Stadum, David and Mark Gutschmidt, Robert Hanson, Jon Hillestad and Gary Stadum.
