George Bachmeier

George J. Bachmeier, 68, Minot, died Saturday, August 15, 2009, in a Minot hospital, following a year and a half battle with cancer.

George was born on May 19, 1941, a son of Joseph and Katherine (Schmidt) Bachmeier in Rugby, ND. He was raised on a farm in Orrin, ND until moving to Rugby in 1954, where he attended school.

On April 3, 1959, George enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. He proudly served his country before being honorably discharged on August 9, 1962.

On October 19, 1963, he was united in marriage to Diane Eide, in Rugby. This union was blessed with two precious daughters, Renee and Paula. They made their home in Minot, where George worked as a painter. He worked for various painting companies. In 1983, he began working for Deloughery Painting in Minot, where he was still employed at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Minot American Legion Post #26, where he served as Commander, Color Guard Chairman and was a member of the Past Commander’s Club. He was also a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church.

George enjoyed spending time with his two granddaughters Alicea and Miranda. He enjoyed gardening and yard work. He had many talents and many accomplishments.

Wife of 46 years Diane, Minot; two daughters, Renee (Duane) Hiller, Minot, and Paula (Mark) Duchscherer, Lansford; two granddaughters, Alicea Hiller and Miranda Hiller, Minot; sisters, Margaret (Joe) Brossart, Rugby, ND, Marion (Clem) Hauck, Rugby, Theresa (Frank) Brossart, Rugby, Dorothy (Manuel) Grad, Harvey, ND, and Rose (Stanley) Casavant, Rolette, ND; brothers, Maurice (Bernice) Bachmeier, Mesa, AZ, and August (Marscida) Bachmeier, Minot; mother-in-law, Elsie Eide, Rugby; brother-in-law, Ron (Sally) Eide, AZ; sister-in-law, Jane (Curtis) Brorby, York, ND; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

George was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Katherine (Nick) Bohl, Phyllis (Adam) Sattler, and Elizabeth (Daniel) Schmaltz; infant sister, Magdalen; and father-in-law, Malvin Eide.

Visitation: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 from 2-7 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot
