Charles McGuire

Memorial services will be held Monday, Aug. 17, 2009 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Rugby for Charles William McGuire, 65, Springerville, Ariz. and formerly of Rugby, who died Monday, July 27 at the Dobson Hospice Center in Chandler, Ariz.

Private burial services will be held in the Persilla Watts Cemetery.

Charles was born Oct. 12, 1943 in Bismarck to Mike and Gladys (Bostow) McGuire. He moved with his family to Rugby in 1949, when his father purchased the Ford dealership. Throughout his youth he excelled in music and sports, setting four high school records in track. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1961 and the University of North Dakota in 1965. He completed his eduction at UND, earning his law degree and was admitted to the North Dakota Bar in 1968. He worked for the Federal Land Bank in St. Paul, Minn., and then for West Publishing Company in Milwaukee, Wis. He went on to become an automobile dealer and was general manager of McGuire Ford and Mercury in Alexandria, Minn., from 1970 to 1977. He moved to Arizona to pursue a lifelong dream of joining the pro golf circuit. He was a professor at Arizona State University and later taught business at DeVry University. Throughout the years he also lived in California. He was an avid golfer, billiards player, and a diehard UND hockey fan.

He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Griffith, Grand Junction, Colo.; two sons, Michael and Scott of the Phoenix, Ariz., area; seven grandchildren; his mother, Gladys, of MiCasa Care Home in Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Maureen (Gary) Browning, Mesa, and Candy (Harry) Wood, Grand Forks; four nieces; two nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mike McGuire.

Rev. Scott Hershey will officiate.
