Elling Jensen

Graveside services were held Friday, July 24, 2009 at Rosehill Cemetery in Esmond for Elling Matt Jensen, 81, Esmond, who died Sunday, July 19 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.

Elling was born June 12, 1928 near Esmond to Walter and Emily (Herman) Jensen. He was raised in the Esmond area and graduated from Esmond Public School in 1946. He farmed, raising potatoes and cattle until entering the U.S. Army at Fort Riley, Kans., in 1953. He served with the Transportation Corps in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1955. He returned to Esmond and continued to farm. In 1960 he passed the civil service exam and was appointed the mail carrier for route one out of Esmond. He retired from full-time service in 1998 and then subbed for several years. He married Cecile “Evie” Wehrli on Dec. 20, 1986 at Harvey. She died April 25, 2003. He continued to make his home at Esmond until his death.

He was a member of the Esmond VFW Post #4251.

He is survived by a number of cousins and many friends.

He was was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.

Pastor David Walters officiated. Military rites were accorded by the Esmond VFW Post #4251.
