Donald Solberg
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, for Donald Solberg, 78, Lakota, who died Friday, July 3 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Burial was in the Lakota Cemetery.
Don was born July 7, 1930 in Lakota to Joseph and Oline Solberg. He attended Lakota schools and graduated from Lakota High School in 1948. He attended business school at NDSU and Toledo School of Business in Toledo, Ohio. He worked at Solberg Motor Company and in 1970 opened and operated Don Solberg Camper Sales until the time of his death. He married Bernice “Bunny” Tomren on March 23, 1957 at Devils Lake. She died on July 12, 1992. He married former Rugby resident Marie (Degenstein) Hazlett on Jan. 26, 1997 in Lakota. He and Marie spent the winter months at their home in Mesa, Ariz.
He was a member of Lakota Lutheran Church and served on the church council and building committee. He had been a Lakota City councilman and was a member of the Sons of Norway, Elks, Masons and the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association of America.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; two daughters, Vicki Bjornson, Oxbow, and Amy Toso, Thompson; two sons, David Solberg, Billings, Mont., and Craig Solberg, Alta Loma, Calif.; eight grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Karen Doyle and Kathleen Hazlett, both of Lakota; and three stepgrandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Bernice; a son, Mark; brothers, Archie, Grant, Woody, Orvin and James; sisters Olive Ensrud and Alice in infancy; a grandson and a stepgrandson.
