Virginia Anderson

Funeral mass was held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Towner, for Virginia Margaret Anderson, 86, Towner, who died Tuesday, June 23 at the Heart of America Medical Center following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Virginia was born June 10, 1923 in Stanley, the daughter of Peter J. and Anna (May) Petron. She grew up there and graduated from high school and then from Minot State Teachers College. She taught in Tioga and Stanley. On Nov. 22, 1952 she married Larry O. Anderson in Stanley. Her husband was a depot agent, and they lived in Tioga, Guthrie, Drake and Willow City. In 1969 they moved to Towner, where he took a banking position. She was a substitute teacher in both public and private schools in Towner, Willow City, Stanley and Tioga.

She was an active member of the Darners Club, Homemakers Club, the Christian Mothers of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

She is survived by her husband; children, Patrick, St. Cloud, Minn.; Michael, Bath, S.D.; Timothy, Billings, Mont.; Robert, Minot; Mary Rose Anderson, Ames, Iowa; Joseph, Douglas, Wyo.; and Nicholas, Ortonville, Minn.; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Angeline Anderson, Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Donald Petron, The Villages, Fla.; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by a son, Francis, in infancy; a brother, Theodore Petron; a sister, Irene Hanley; two sisters in infancy, Dorothy and Mary Petron; and her parents.

Fr. Wenceslaus Katanga was the celebrant. Music was provided by St. Cecilia’s Music Ministry.

Casketbearers were Alexander, Sean, Damian, Christopher, Samuel, Anthony, Dominic and Martin Anderson.
