Elaine Godman

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church, Churchs Ferry, for Elaine N. Godman, 80, Churchs Ferry, who died Monday, June 8 at Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.

Burial was in the Churchs Ferry Cemetery.

Elaine was born July 16, 1928 on the family farm near Lawton to Carl and Cora (Hursman) Lorenz. Her father died when she was two years old. In 1937 she moved with her mother and brother to Devils Lake. She graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1946. On June 24, 1946 she married William T. Godman Jr. in Devils Lake. They moved to the Godman family farm near Churchs Ferry. She was employed outside the home as an assistant to the postmaster in Churchs Ferry and as a substitute mail carrier for a number of years.

She was a member of the Maza United Methodist Church and then Churchs Ferry United Methodist Church and UMW until it closed, and was a current member of the Cando United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a faithful supporter of Zion Lutheran Church in Churchs Ferry, the ELCW, and was a member of the quilting group. She was a member of the Irvine Friendship Club for over 60 years and was currently serving as its president.

She is survived by her husband; five children, Judith Lease, Catawissa, Penn.; Barbara Kluzak, Lakeville, Minn.; Cynthia Schwartz, Rugby; Richard Godman, Devils Lake; and Donald Godman, Cando; six grandchildren; a brother, Charles Lorenz, Great Falls, Mont.; and other relatives.

Pastor Richard Budd officiated. Music was provided by Darlene Albertson, soloist, and Father James Lease, Organist.
