Cora Hunter

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Esmond for Cora Melvina Hunter, 94, Harvey, formerly of Esmond and Maddock, who died Sunday, May 3 at St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey.

Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Esmond.

Cora was born Aug. 17, 1914 on the family farm near Fillmore to Iver and Hanna (Berg) Brenno. She was raised and attended school in Fillmore and graduated from Silva High School. She married Ernest Hunter on June 9, 1938 at Fillmore. They lived in Flora, Sterling, Wing and Westhope while Ernest taught school. In 1947 they moved to the Hunter farm southeast of Esmond and assisted in the farming operation with Ernest’s brother. Ernest died on May 20, 1972. Cora then moved to Maddock and was a cook at the Memorial Home there for many years.

She was a former member of the Esmond Congregational Church and Ladies Aid and was a current member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Esmond. She had held memberships in the VFW Auxiliary of Esmond and the Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Auxiliary of Maddock.

She is survived by a daughter, Diana Sizemore, Sterling, Va.; two sons, Gary Hunter, Minot, and Terry Hunter, Channelview, Texas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six brothers, Henry, John, Iliot, Theodore, Irvin and Herman; and four sisters, Olena, Stella, Thea and Inga.

Pastor Dave Fix will officiate. Music will be provided by Roger and Karen Hill.

Honorary bearers will be Philip Backstrom, Wilford Brown, Virgil Ellingson, Lewis Duffey, Dean Hellesvig, Sylvester Hoffner, Royce Hunter, Wade Hunter, Kenny Sizemore, members of the Esmond VFW Auxiliary and the Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Auxiliary.

Visitation will be at the church an hour before the service.
