Gladyce Jacobson

Funeral services were held Friday, April 24, 2009 at First Lutheran Church for Gladys Onieta (Engebrit) Jacobson, 89, Rugby, who died Friday, April 17 at the Heart of America Long Term Care Center .

Burial will be in Persilla Watts Cemetery later in the spring.

Gladyce was born Oct. 28, 1919 in the home of her parents, Lewis and Hannah (Teigen) Engebrit, in Dewey Township, Pierce County. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in a country school near her home. On Nov. 11, 1945 she married Reuben Jacobson in Rugby. The couple made their home in Rugby. She also worked outside the home at various jobs, including the Good Samaritan Hospital, the Coffee Shop Cafe, Center Motel, Senior Center, and the Heart of America Library for 17 years. Reuben died May 29, 1985. She lived in her own home until January of 2006, when she moved to the Haaland Estates, where she lived until May of 2007, when she moved to the Heart of America Long Term Care Center.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and its WELCA and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl Orth, Minnetonka, Minn., and Russell Jacobson, Rugby; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four sisters, Blenda Hagen, Ina Enga, Alice Westgard and Ruth Medalen; four brothers, Roy, Alvin, Clifford and Helmer Engebrit; and her parents.

Pastors Mike Pretzer and Sharon Baker officiated. Organist was Pamela Anderson, and soloist was Teri Shomento.

Casketbearers were Chad Jacobson, Ryan Orth, Allen Hammeren, Walter Rockvoy, Corky Hayden and Kurt Arthur. Honorary bearers were Clayton Enga, Kenny Kittilson and Floyd Harshberger.
