Maurus Schneibel

Maurus M. Schneibel, age 78, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Maurus was born May 15, 1930 to Sigmund and Katherine (Jaeger) Schneibel. He grew up on a farm near Fulda, North Dakota where he attended school. He married Barbara Held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Selz, North Dakota on October 20, 1952. The couple farmed near Fulda until 1958 when they moved to a farm near Selz, where they raised their family of 5 sons. There he was a member of the Knight of Columbus, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a trustee at St. Anthony’s. He was also a member of the School Board and the Harvey Fraternal Order of Eagles. In 1975, they moved to Rugby where he worked for Wentz Construction for several years before becoming an independent contractor, with carpentry as his specialty. He especially enjoyed woodworking, gardening and yard work. His greatest passion was spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, including his grandchildren.

Maurus was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Those who will miss him dearly are his wife of 56 years, Barbara; his sons, Darrell (Susie) of Bismarck, their daughter, Jacey; Monte (Gayle) of Rugby, their children, Dustin, Jaime (Chad) Wolf, and Michael; Randy (Deb) of Oxbow, their children Angie (Jason) Jelinek and Ryan; Gary of Aberdeen, SD; and Kevin (Mary Kaye) of Lakota, their children, Casey, Brendon, Thomas, Jennifer and Gabriel; 4 great-grandchildren, Madison, Hailey, Shacey, Brayden and one on the way. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Louie (Phyllis) of Colorado & Leonard (Ann) of Harvey; 5 sisters, Elizabeth Marquart of Minot, Helen Grad of Harvey, Pauline Weiland of South Dakota, Rebecca (Herbert) Casey of Minnesota and Barbara (Ed) Schafer of Montana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Loretta Heilman, Rugby, Mary Held, Selz; sister-in-law Theresa Schneibel of Minnesota; brother-in-law Frank Neiss of Minot; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Adam & Clara Held; brothers, Sigmund Jr., Anthony, Joe, August & Leo; sisters, Mary & Eleanor; brothers-in-law, Peter Marquart, Peter Grad, Don Weiland and Ed Held; sisters-in-law, Lena Schneibel, Frances Schneibel & Katherine (Schneibel) Lindeman.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with spring burial in the Church cemetery. Father Ross Laframboise, Celebrant

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Rugby. There will be no reviewal in the Church.
