Ida Herman
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, for Ida Marie Herman, 98, who died Wednesday, March 18 at the Heart of America Long Term Care Center.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Bantry, in the spring.
Ida was born April 25, 1910 in the home of her parents, Simon Peter and Stella (Frishman) Peterson, in Little Deep Township, McHenry County. She was raised in the home of her parents and received her education in a rural school near her home. She married Cecil Reuben Herman on April 26, 1928 at Towner. They farmed and ranched in Wagar Township, McHenry County, for over 50 years. Cecil died May 3, 1979. Ida moved into Towner in 1982. For the past several years she had been a resident of the Heart of America Long Term Care Center in Rugby.
She was a member of the Towner Senior Citizens Club and held various positions; the Red Hat Society; Good Neighbors Homemakers Club; Hobby Club; Zion Lutheran Church; WELCA and Quilters; the VFW Auxiliary; and a Birthday Club.
She is survived by children, Shirley Schneibel, Great Falls, Mont.; Richard Herman, Minot; Mardell Kuntz, Rugby; and Roger Herman, Great Falls, Mont.; a son-in-law, Vernon Kongslie, Towner; daughters-in-law, Jeanette Herman, Towner, and Angela Herman, Rugby; 27 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Watson, Washington; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; children Cecil, Harvey, Vernon, Delores Kongslie, and Robert; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Martin, Harold, Oliver, Leonard, Elmer, Norman, Lester and Chester Peterson, Alice Erickson, Viola Bamer and Frances Cable; and her parents.
Lay Pastor Mr. Wally Fretland and Rev. Phil Leer officiated. Organist was Oliene Hall, and soloist was Vern Larson.
Casketbearers were grandsons Justin Kongslie, Kipp Herman, Jeff Herman, Tim Schneibel, Brad Herman and Doug Kuntz.
