Douglas “Stan” Hewitt
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lisbon, for Douglas Stanton “Stan” Hewitt, 79, Gwinner, who died Thursday, March 5 at his home.
Burial was in the Old Sargent Cemetery, Cogswell.
Stan was born Nov. 1, 1929 on a farm at rural Cogswell to Olive and Charles W. Hewitt. He attended school in Forman. After graduation, he went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and remained in their employment for 33 years, holding positions of telephone lineman and manager. After his retirement from Northwestern Bell, he owned and operated a resort on Lake Metigoshe. He then became a trucker. In August of 1995 he married Betty Johnson. The couple lived in Gwinner and spent their summers at Lake Metigoshe.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, Craig Hewitt, Fargo; four daughters, Wendy Fritel, Grand Forks; Becky Bartsch, Rugby; Bonnie Morgan, Flower Mound, Texas, and Laura Hardmeyer, Bismarck; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Coddington Hewitt; and a sister, Jane Delvo, both of Fargo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lucy Joanne and Marjorie Dady; and three brothers, Charles, Harrison and Theodore Hewitt.
