Clarence Satrang

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, for Clarence (Alfred) Satrang, 92, who died Friday, March 13 at the Heart of America Medical Center.

Burial will be in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, in the spring.

Clarence was born Nov. 24, 1916 in Dunseith, the son of Melvin and Inga (Rue) Satrang. He grew up on a farm in the Turtle Mountains. He served in the Army during World War II. He married Beryl Mary Graham on July 14, 1945 in Sydney, Australia. After returning to the U.S. they made their first home on the Clarence Bye farmstead. In 1947 they moved to Rolette. Alfred worked at R&O Contractors of Rolette from 1947-1952. He then accepted a job with the Farmers Union in Rolette. For 30 years he delivered fuel to people in the Rolette area. He retired in 1982.

He was a member of Valle Lutheran Church, Dethman-Armstrong American Legion Post #194, Rolette Country Club, and the Farmers Union. He had also served on the board of the Rolette Senior Citizens organization.

He is survived by his children, Corrine Satrang, Grafton; James Satrang, Wellsburg, W. Va.; and Kent Satrang, Fargo; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchldren; and a brother, Clyde Satrang, Mt. Iron, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; brothers, Alvin and John Satrang; and sisters, Berdella Clark and Lela Wenstad.

Rev. Clarence Stanley and Rev. John Hesford officiated. Military honors were accorded by the Dethman-Armstrong American Legion Post #194. Arrangements by Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
