Theresa “Doris” Schneider
Funeral mass was held Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta for Theresa Barbara “Doris” Schneider, 80, who died Sunday, March 1 at the Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Bottineau.
Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.
Doris was born on Nov. 3, 1928 in the rural Balta home of her parents, Joseph and Katherine (Hoffart) Eisenzimmer. She grew up there and received her education in Brazil #2 country school. Following her schooling, she helped in the family grocery business in Balta and learned carpentry and fine woodworking skills from her father. On Dec. 28, 1953 she married John Schneider in Balta. They maintained a home in Balta but also lived in towns where John taught during the school year, including White Earth and Esmond; Doran, Minn.; and McLaughlin, S.D. They operated Hillside Nursery along with their dairy farm near Balta from 1974 to 1981 when they moved into Balta, taking the greenhouse with them. They operated a farm-to-market garden until health issues forced their retirement in 2004. John died Nov. 12, 2005. Doris moved to the Good Samaritan Center in 2005.
She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Ann Meyer, Bismarck, Dorothy Johnson, Rolette, and Barbara Lamb, American Fork, Utah; sons, Michael, Orrin, and Richard, Billings, Mont.; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Eva Bickler, Harvey, and Elizabeth Fettig, Jamestown; a sister-in-law, Regina Eisenzimmer, Rugby; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son-in-law, Mike Meyer; four brothers, Joseph, John, Michael, and Bennie; three sisters, Mary Anne Eisenzimmer, Caroline Bickler and Katherine Slabik; and her parents.
Father Julian Kupisz was the celebrant. Organist was Glenda Mack, and vocalist was Galen Mack.
Casketbearers were grandsons Travis Schneider, Bruce Pfeifer, Daniel Pfeifer, James Meyer, Richie Schneider and Sheldon Prellwitz.
