Wesley Christenson
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 at First Lutheran Church for Wesley Eugene Christenson, 84, Rugby, who died Monday, Feb. 23 at the Heart of America Long Term Care Center in Rugby.
Burial will be in Persilla Watts Cemetery in the spring.
Wesley was born July 30, 1924 in the Walsh Township home of his parents, Charles and Katherine (Tuff) Christenson. He grew up on the farm home of his parents and attended country grade school near his home. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1942. On June 30, 1947 he married Lylis Grider at Rugby, Following their marriage, the couple made their home, farmed and raised their family on the Christenson family homestead. Wesley retired from active farming at the age of 72 due to health concerns.
He was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church and had served on its council. He also had served on the boards of Leverich Elevator, Pierce County rural schools and the Persilla Watts Cemetery Association.
He is survived by his wife; four children, Paula Martin, Pembina, Mike Christenson, Kent Christenson and Kris Blessum, all of Rugby; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James; and his parents.
Pastor Mike Pretzer officiated. Organist was Pam Anderson and vocalist was Alecia Pretzer.
Casketbearers were grandsons Charles Christenson, Steve Martin, Eric Martin, Kyle Christenson, Chase Christenson and Jacob Blessum.
