2016 FFA Banquet
The Rugby FFA Banquet was held on Thursday, March 31, 2016. The banquet was highlighted many of the past years student member accomplishments. Accomplishments include Scholarship Winners, members attending Leadership Conferences, FFA Achievement, Outstanding Member, Star Farmer, Star Ag Business, Star Ag Placement, Star Greenhand Member, Proficiency Award Winners, Program of Activity Chairpersons, Outstanding Jr. High Member, and the Rugby FFA Officer Team. FFA members were also recognized during the program for their achievements at Local, State, and National level Career Development Events throughout the past year. Highlights from the Career Development Events are; 9th Place at the National Range Judging competition, 16th Place at the National Meats Evaluation competition, and 22nd Place at the National Horse Evaluation competition.
At banquets since 2007, the Rugby FFA has honored an individual, or individuals who have shown great leadership and dedication to the Rugby FFA in the past years, and has inducted them into their “Hall of Fame”. This year, the banquet was dedicated to Kari Burkhartsmeier and Deb Leier-the first ever females to hold an FFA officer position in the Rugby FFA during the 1976-77 school year. These ladies helped set a trend for females both in membership, and leadership in the FFA. The FFA nationally has 47 percent female membership, and 50 percent of the State Officers nationwide are females. North Dakota for example has six females and one male on their State Officer team.
The banquet speaker this year was Wiley Bailey, a former National FFA officer from Alabama. His message about stepping up and becoming someone who helps others in need. His message was also accompanied by his banjo playing and humorous stories from his life. He certainly had the audience on the edge of their seats having a great time.
