Meats judging tops at Crookston

Crookston, Minn. – Rugby FFA members competed in the Ag and Natural Resources Activities Day at the University of Minnesota-Crookston on Dec. 17. Ag and Natural Resources Activities Day has taken place on the UMC campus for thirty years and consists of roughly one thousand students competing in a wide range of FFA Career Development Events. The Rugby FFA Chapter had teams in the areas of horse judging, meats judging, small animal care (vet science), and food science. The meats judging team was a strong spot for the Rugby FFA with members Devin Volk, Maddie Schmaltz, Clay Vannett, Josh Pfeifer, and Sierra Jundt placing, in order, first, second, third, fifth, and fifteenth, and receiving the honor of top team of the day. The small animal care team consisted of Morgan Oppen, Matty Koenig, and Katelyn Kuntz. Oppen was the second high individual in the contest, and they received the third place spot as a team. The food science team consisted of Hannah Voeller and McKenzie Johnson who placed eighth and ninth individually and did not make the top three as a team. MyKell Bosch and Allison Heilman participated in horse judging, and Allison was named the third high individual. Overall, the Rugby FFA had a great showing on the day.
