Parliamentary Procedure team takes fifth
The Rugby FFA chapter’s parliamentary procedure team took fifth place out of 16 teams at the state meet Oct. 15 in Bismarck.
Before going into the competition, Rugby parliamentary procedure team — which includes president Devin Volk; vice president McKenzie Johnson, secretary Allison Heilman; treasurer Sierra Jundt and sentinel Elizabeth Blessum — took first at their district leadership conference on Oct. 2. They then had to practice for the state event.
“The team was very close and we had fun being around each other,” Volk said. “So it made it enjoyable to practice at 6:20 in the morning (for) four days a week.”
At the tournament, Rugby faced some of the top parliamentary procedure teams, which were split into two brackets of eight. Rugby was in a bracket that included Kindred and Napoleon, which took first and second place, respectively.
“We knew the competition was going to be strong,” Blessum said. “And it was.”
Due to test scores, Rugby did not land a spot in the top four. Rugby did, however, take gold at the competition.
“We’re proud of their accomplishments,” Rugby FFA adviser Kasey Okke said. “They have nothing to be ashamed of. They did really well.”
Blessum added: “I am proud of our team for our finish, and I truly believe that we gave it our best. I know we didn’t end up back-to-back champions, but I would still consider this a very successful year.”
The Rugby FFA heads to Louisville, Ky., tomorrow for the National Convention.
