Keynote speaker Randy Entzminger spoke at Rugby High School, Sunday, July 12, about German-Russian immigrants traveling to the United States.

A presentation by speaker Randy Entzminger at Rugby High School on Sunday, July 12, shed light on the journey of German-Russian immigrants who sought a new life in the United States.

Entzminger presented in a slideshow how they traveled with all they could carry, hygiene practices, medical evaluations and funds to purchase land.

Before the immigrants traveled to America, they were to follow specific medical procedures on bathing, tending any medical concerns and then repeat the process to receive the paperwork to travel.

Some people traveled with large sums of money (possibly) for homestead purchases. There were also medical costs, fees to travel, tickets to pass through locations to live in the United States.

The dream was to own land, be free and live. The Homestead Act provided this dream for anyone who would be willing to pay the costs to own acreage, develop their way of life to settle in a far off distance.
