St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) members came together to skate for a good cause at the Al Wentz Ice Arena in Rugby on Jan. 13.

The youth group is raising funds for the Women’s Care Center in Devils Lake. The center’s Crib Club donation center and Greatest Baby Shower is accepting monetary donations and new items for families in need.

The Al Wentz Ice Arena donated ice time for the event held from 1:30-3:15 p.m., opening the ice rink for everyone who wanted to participate in the fundraiser.

Lisa Volk, CYO director at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, said the youth group has displayed a small tree in the back of the church with gift tags. Anyone can come in and pick a tag, then bring the item to the church. The gift donations are being collected until Feb. 20.

The CYO members have been raising funds for the Women’s Care Center in Devils Lake for the past five years. Once the fundraiser is over, the youth group travels to the Devils Lake center with the donations. At the center they are given a tour of the facility, learning about the variety of programs the Women’s Care Center provides for families and children.

Women’s Care Center staff said they appreciate the support of the Little Flower youth group.

The Crib Club donation center receives extensive support from the community, center staff said. If people are in need of diapers or formula and baby clothes, the donation center helps them. People have donated lightly used toys, clothes for winter, bedding for cribs, women’s products and an assortment of other items.

The community donates items throughout the entire year by dropping off new baby cribs and mattresses for the babies to sleep on to go to the center’s Greatest Baby Shower event, according to center staff. The event is held in January of each year.
