Centenarian using computers for many years

By Jennifer Bercier - Staff Writer | Nov 29, 2025

Jennifer Bercier/PCT Delores Jaeger, a resident at Haaland Estates in Rugby, enjoys showing photos on her electronic tablet Nov. 6. Jaeger celebrated her 100th birthday in August.

Ask Delores Jaeger about a time in history after she was born and she will smile and tell you about the year and what was happening. If she has a photo saved in her electronic tablet, she will scroll until she finds it.

Jaeger, a resident of Haaland Estates in Rugby who celebrated her 100th birthday Aug. 16, was introduced into the electronic world in the 1960s while working at Midwest Federal Savings and Loan writing bank slips for customers, and adding and subtracting became a little easier. She still had to use her skills before the computers – she just adapted to a new way of life. The computers seemed to be a simpler way for business and made her job a little bit easier.

Jaeger also recalled the 1930s were a terrible time in history for the county and for her family. She said it was a time when the locusts came and the sky turned almost black because there were so many insects flying. People couldn’t place anything outside or it would be eaten by the insects. Also called the Dirty ’30s or Dust Bowl, Jaeger recalled shops went out of business and farmers were hit hard losing everything.

Today, Jaeger enjoys her time at Haaland Estates. Her favorite quote that she lives by is “Live hard, play harder.”

With a motherly and friendly personality, Jaeger is a huge motivator for other residents and staff at Haaland Estates in participating in activities. She uses her “green thumb” taking care of Harry, the chia plant. She was the only resident that was able to keep it alive all year.
