Swedish singer Sophia Talvik will be performing at Arts in the Park in Rugby on Wednesday, June 11, at 7 p.m.

Talvik, who grew up in Sweden, takes inspiration from her Scandinavian heritage and puts it in her music. Talvik enjoys performing in intimate settings rather than a larger crowd. She said this is how she feels she reaches people with her music the most. “I played a song in Wisconsin and there was someone who came to my show and heard my song “Take me Home,” and she had a friend who passed away and they had used this song while they celebrated his life during a lantern lighting.” said Talvik.

“The first album I released was on a small indie album in Sweden and I didn’t like what they were doing and what I wasn’t able to do.” Talvik said .“So I started my own label and I now am able to have the artistic freedom to do what I want within my music and how many albums I choose to put out a year.”

Her album, “Big Sky Country,” was voted fourth best Americana album of the year by United Kingdom newspaper Telegraph. “That album is the essence and experience of the 2012 U.S. tour,” Talvik said.

Talkvik and her husband have been traveling across Europe and the U.S. performing in 48 states North Dakota will be her 49th state and after that she said Alaska is the last state left to perform in. Talvik travels in her 1998 Winnebago Warrior with her husband behind the wheel. “I can’t wait to perform in North Dakota to be able to see the scenery and to make North Dakota the 49th state I have performed in,” Talvik said.
