A generous Balta couple has donated $100,000 to the Rugby Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.

RVFD Chief Joel Berg said Jim and Gerd Tuchsherer approached him in August regarding the donation, which was offered to help the department to put toward any need it had. Berg said the funds will be used to acquire a new vehicle to be used to address grass fires.

“We’re going to replace one of our grass rigs. We have a 1970 Suburban we’re using right now, and I think we’re going to replace it with a new pickup for fighting grass fires. We have a committee put together to get a truck specced out,” Berg said. “It’s served its purpose so we’re planning to update that. What it’s going to save the fire protection district in replacing a truck is a huge deal. It’s very much appreciated. “
