Students honored with shout out for their ROAR

Submitted Photo Students at Ely Elementary are recognized for displaying ROAR (Responsible, On-Task, Accountable and Respectful) behaviors. Those awarded recently are, back row, left to right, Thea Johnson, Reagan Wald, Andee Randall, Drake Ramsey and Amillio Martinez. Front row, left to right, Hannah Hager, Rocky Hager, Quinn Nelson, Sophie Jacobson, Jeremiah Melehert and Bently Reinoehl.
Students at Ely Elementary are being encouraged to follow the ROAR guidelines, which stands for Responsible, On-Task, Accountable and Respectful behaviors. If students are “caught” following the ROAR, teachers and staff at Ely can give a PAWS-itive Shout-Out. Ely Panther Ambassadors recognize the students who received a PAWS-itive Shout-Out each month at a schoolwide assembly.
“We have common schoolwide expectations in all areas of our school and we have posters displayed so students can know those expectations,” said Ely Elementary school teacher Abby Schneider.
Students are recognized by any staff member in the building for displaying these qualities. If they are seen being responsible, on task, accountable or respectful, then a teacher will award them with a ROAR or a shout out.
“We have a school assembly on the first Friday of every month where these students are recognized and given a ROAR water bottle sticker,” said Schneider.
The program started this year and is led by The Panther Ambassadors, which began three years ago.
“The Panther Ambassadors are fourth, fifth and sixth graders who are student leaders in our school. They host community events and guide new students around the school,” said Schneider.
The Panther Ambassadors also put on different drives throughout the year such as winter clothing, food drives and family literacy engagement nights.
