Rugby man gets volunteer award
Steve Dockter has been named Rugby Chamber of Commerce’s volunteer award recipient.
Dockter volunteers his time throughout Rugby at places such as the Calvary Evangelical Church, Pierce County Fair, Prairie Village Museum and waters the beautiful flowers downtown.
“It takes me about an hour a day, but I enjoy it. It’s good quiet time,” said Dockter.
He also volunteers at the Prairie Pumpkin Patch.
“I took my grandkids to the pumpkin patch southeast of Grand Forks and I thought, we need one closer to Rugby. We have had over 1,500 visitors in the last three years,” said Dockter.
Dockter moved to Rugby in 1980.
“I took my first job here and it just kind of stuck with me,” said Dockter.
Docktor said he has been retired for a few years and looks for fun things to do to help out in the community. He quotes Theadore Roosevelt: “Whatever a man does for himself dies with him. What he does for his community lives on.”
