A recent Rugby High School graduate named to North Dakota’s All-State Choir will travel to Hawaii with Honor Choir USA for a performance tour June 14-20.

Danae Lashman, daughter of Kevin and Tanya Lashman, received a letter notifying her of her place with the national choir after she was named to the North Dakota All-State Choir in March, according to a statement by the Rugby Music Boosters.

“I am so excited,” she said in a message to the Tribune. “I have never been to Hawaii before.”

Lashman said she would travel with her best friends Amber and Kasondra Harmel, of Rugby, to Hawaii.

“I’ve been singing since about third grade in church choir, but I sang all four years with the (Rugby) High School Choir,” she added.

Lashman gave thanks to Andee Mattson, her elementary vocal music teacher at Ely Elementary School.

“Andee Mattson started my music career in competition,” she said.

“Lexi Rusch did well with pushing me out of my comfort zone this past year,” Lashman added, giving credit to Rugby High School’s newest music instructor, who wrapped up her first year of teaching in May.

Lashman and Honor Choir USA will perform at the U.S.S. Battleship Missouri Memorial at Pearl Harbor; Mokuaikaua Church, which is Hawaii’s oldest church, and Aloha Stadium.
