Hospital Auxiliary offers festive way to welcome May
After days of heavy late-April snow, members of the Good Samaritan Hospital Association Auxiliary will bring area residents a festive reminder of warmer days to come.
Members have been busy creating May Day baskets to be delivered on May 2, according to Shelley Block, volunteer coordinator for the auxiliary and activities director at Heart of America Medical Center.
Block said she would be taking orders for the baskets, which will include cookies, candy, treats, and flower seeds until April 28. Baskets cost $10 each.
She said the baskets would make an ideal spring gift for a friend, sweetheart, or someone who needs cheering up. Each basket contains the same types of items, all with a spring theme.
“They’re one-size fits all, so to speak,” she said. “It takes hours assembling (them).”
The auxiliary is making the baskets to raise funds for a laptop computer for the hospital’s hospice team, according to Block, who said the basket sale is an annual tradition.
Block estimated the auxiliary would sell 200 baskets this year. Members of the auxiliary’s board of directors deliver the baskets.
“The board of directors enjoys the fundraisers they do yearly to help the departments at HAMC,” she added.
