Repairs to swimming pool, armory buildings start up
Work to repair the roof on the Rugby Armory and Rugby Swimming Pool building should begin in April, according to information shared with the City of Rugby Buildings Committee on March 21.
At the special meeting, members Neil Lotvedt and Joel Berg discussed updates on the scheduled work with Mayor Sue Steinke. Also present was City Auditor Jennifer Stewart.
“The update I had was that fans will go in (the swimming pool building) next week,” Steinke told the committee. “Johnson’s Plumbing in the subcontractor for Swanson’s Construction.”
Lotvedt told the group he had spoken with Mike Swanson of Swanson’s Construction.
“Mike said that it’s going to be done before the pool opens, but it’s taking time to get these windows,” Lotvedt said. “The windows are going to be the holdup in this project.”
Steinke said she had spoken with representatives from A and R Roofing, the West Fargo firm in charge of repairing the armory roof. She said representatives had told her they were “hoping to start the second week of April.” Steinke added she told them, “I would like both the pool and the armory done before the end of June.”
“He thought that was doable?” Berg asked.
“He did,” Steinke answered.
“That would be good to get both of those done. They’re long overdue,” Berg said.
Lotvedt said the armory had a critical need for roof repair to save the interior from water damage from leaks.
“We have to save that floor,” he told the committee.
Work on the pool roof is scheduled to start after completion of the armory roof.
Steinke and Lotvedt said they didn’t expect the projects to delay the pool’s opening for the summer season.
In other business, the committee voted to update a response to a bid submitted by Cole Papers, of Mandan, to refinish the armory floor. The committee also discussed updates needed for the armory restrooms to comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. The project has not been budgeted for the 2022 fiscal year.
