Sue Sitter/PCT A late-night crash on Feb. 16 damaged a fence and a portion of the Precision Autobody building in northwest Rugby.

Police say alcohol was a factor in a late-night crash on Feb. 16 that left one Rugby resident with minor injuries and a Rugby business damaged in the northwest part of the city.

According to a report released by Rugby Police Chief John Rose, a vehicle driven by Nikolaus Lenz, 29, of Rugby, left North Dakota Highway 3 near H.E. Everson Auto Parts just before midnight on Feb. 16. The car careened through the store’s parking lot, crashing into the side of Precision Autobody before landing on its side.

“The crash remains under investigation and it is believed that alcohol and speed played a part in the crash,” the report said. “The vehicle was totaled and there was significant damage to the building.”

Rose said Rugby Ambulance Service transported Lenz to Heart of America Medical Center for treatment. Officers took Lenz into custody after his release from the hospital.
