One Rugby resident dies, one injured in rollover crash
A Rugby resident is dead and another injured after a single-vehicle rollover crash on U.S. Highway 2 in Grand Forks County Jan. 12.
According to a statement by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, John Gustafson, 74, of Rugby, was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition eastbound three miles east of Niagara on the frost and ice-covered highway at 9 a.m. when he lost control of the SUV.
The Expedition slid into the south ditch, rolling over. John Gustafson sustained serious injuries, while his passenger, Laverne Gustafson, 89, suffered minor injuries. Larimore Ambulance transported both to Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, for treatment. John Gustafson died in the hospital Jan. 14.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
