Sue Sitter/PCT Nick Schmaltz served at the first official meeting of his new term July 13.

Although Nick Schmaltz sat at his first official meeting for 2021 as a member of the Rugby Public School Board July 13, he said he noticed lots of familiar things.

“I’ve served on the board in the past for nine years,” he said. Schmaltz, who represents precinct 2 southwest of Rugby, sat on the board from 2000-2009. “A lot of it is very familiar,” he said of the school board. “But the numbers are different and the people are different.”

Schmaltz said his first meeting went well “so far.”

“There are different issues now from what there were before, so it takes a little time to get into the swing of things,” he added.

Schmaltz said in his current term, “I hope to contribute to the education of the students through the policies we have. I have a daughter who’s in junior high now.” Schmaltz said his daughter played basketball in sixth grade and may try it out in junior high. “We haven’t decided yet,” Schmaltz said.
