American Legion post to hold in-person Memorial Day celebration
The Rugby Clarence Larson American Legion Post 23 announced a return to tradition with an in-person Memorial Day ceremony to be held at the Rugby Memorial Hall May 31 at 10:30 a.m.
The ceremony will include a program and meal as usual, however, according to Post Commander John Gustafson, organizers will take precautions to safeguard the health of those attending.
“Half the gymnasium at Memorial Hall will have seating with social distancing and half will be usual seating,” Gustafson said. “The balcony should be able to accommodate the overflow for those still desiring social distancing. There will be hand sanitizer at the entrance and masks are recommended.”
Gustafson said radio station KZZJ would simulcast the event “for those not able to attend the program.”
“There will be a wreath-laying ceremony immediately after the program at around 11:30,” Gustafson said.
Gustafson added the guest speaker for the event “is yet to be determined.”
“The auxiliary will be serving lunch immediately after the wreath-laying ceremony,” Gustafson added. “All are welcome at the lunch.”
