Those missing hot movie theater popcorn and a good film in Rugby won’t have to wait much longer. Mayor Sue Steinke announced on Feb. 1 the Lyric Theater will re-open Friday, Feb. 12.

The theater has been closed nearly a year due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Steinke said late that evening she had worked final details out “and we’ll open on Feb 12th with the movie ‘Wonder Woman 1984,’ running our traditional weekend evenings at 7:30 p.m.”

“The plan initially is to be open every other weekend until more movies become available,” Steinke added.

Steinke said next in the lineup for February was “Let Him Go,” starring Kevin Costner, adapted from a story written by Rugby native Larry Watson. That film is scheduled to play Feb. 26-28.
