Farmer’s Wife Cakes, 3rd Street Station partner to offer goodies

The Farmer’s Wife Cakes will now offer retail baked goods closer to home, thanks to a partnership with Rugby’s 3rd Street Station bar and grill.

“People have been asking The Farmer’s Wife Cakes to have a retail outlet in Rugby for some time now,” said Jennifer Dockter, owner of the Rugby specialty bakery. Dockter has offered cupcakes, baked goods and sometimes, lunch items at Marsai’s Bean and Boutique in Harvey since last spring.

Tracy Corum, who with husband Dan owns 3rd Street Station, said she had been hoping to give diners another course after they finish the grill’s steaks, prime rib and other menu items.

“I always wanted desserts in 3rd Street Station,” Corum said. “With Jen being local, we figured why not sell her delicious baked goods in here so we can offer our customers dessert after they eat, and then the community can come in and get whatever they want. She has kind of a little storefront here. It’s beneficial for her and for us.”

Customers are welcome to visit 3rd Street Station to take home baked goodies during business hours while the treats last.

“Everybody is loving it,” Corum said of the bakery case at 3rd Street Station. “We had people coming in toward the end of last week, but we ran out. So, it’s going to go over good. I think the community will be very responsive,” she added.

“Our inventory will change weekly,” Dockter said. “We tend to rotate it out to keep things fun. We always have a variety of cupcakes. Our flavors change. We always have at least one or two types of bars as well as specialty desserts. This week, it’s Sicilian cannoli.”

Dockter named the bakery items for the week: “We have cupcakes in white almond, Brooklyn Blackout (a chocolate-in-chocolate cupcake), salted caramel nut, Oreo. We also have salted caramel brownies and kuchen bars and Sicilian cannoli,” she added.
