Parade of Lights plans updated

By Sue Sitter - | Nov 28, 2020

Rugby Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laurie Odden has released updated plans for Rugby’s annual Parade of Lights – 2020 style, to be held Nov. 28 at 6 p.m.

Odden said the parade will follow a route that begins in the Rugby High School parking lot, where participants will line up at 5:30 p.m. The parade will go past Haaland Estates to Main Avenue, to the frontage road near the railroad tracks downtown, to Second Avenue Southwest before circling back to Main Avenue near the Christmas tree in Merchants Bank Park at Main Ave. and Second Street Southeast.

“As the last float passes the semi trailer set up with music, the live music will start playing,” Odden said. Ryan Keplin, known as the Fiddling Lefty, will provide the live music.

“We will not be having a big tree lighting,” Odden said, noting the 2020-style changes to the parade, put in place for safety. “As Santa goes by the tree, he will wave his magic wand and light it up.”

The parade will end in the City of Rugby parking lot south of the Amtrak depot, where parade-watchers will be encouraged to enjoy the concert in their cars. “We have members of the Rugby Car Club helping with the parking,” Odden said. “The parade and live music will also be broadcast live on Rugby Broadcasters along with a live Facebook feed on the KZZJ page,” she added.

“We have plenty of options for all to participate in the parade and music and keep us following the COVID-19 guidelines,” Odden said, adding, “A big thank you to all the sponsors of the Parade of Lights and live music.”
