Heilman receives Chamber customer service award
A familiar face at Rugby’s Coffee Cottage received special thanks for her service from the Rugby Chamber of Commerce Nov. 23.
Server Laura Heilman, who greets customers every morning with a smile at tables or behind a display case of fresh pies expressed surprise when three Chamber board of directors members told her they hadn’t come in to the restaurant to give her a breakfast order. Instead, they presented Heilman with a mug and a pin recognizing her for “going above and beyond” in her customer service job.
“We’re not here to eat today,” Rugby Chamber and CVB Executive Director Laurie Odden said with a smile. Board members Ashley Berg and Tricia Jundt joined Odden to give Heilman her award.
Heilman, a 10-year employee at Coffee Cottage, said she enjoys her job. “It’s helped me to come out of my shell quite a bit,” she said. “I used to be super shy.”
“I love Rugby,” Heilman added. “I love the small town environment. I do enjoy it here,” she said, wiping a tear from her eye. “I get emotional,” she added with a smile.
Heilman said she sees “quite a few regulars” at Coffee Cottage. “I probably know them more by what they order than their names, to be honest,” she added with a slight laugh.
A message on the website for the Rugby Chamber of Commerce said, “This award was established to recognize employees for going above and beyond in providing excellent customer service within our community.”
