An Oct. 16 crash at a rural Cass County intersection has claimed the lives of two Rugby area residents and sent a third to a Fargo hospital.

A statement released by the North Dakota Highway Patrol said Jeanette Arnold, 76, Esmond, and Dennis Marthe, 75, Rugby, died when a 2014 Chrysler Town and Country minivan driven by Arnold failed to stop at the intersection of Cass County Roads 20 and 17, colliding with the side of a trailer hopper on a 2006 Freightliner semi driven by Terry Goeser, 54, of Casselton. Marthe was a passenger in the minivan.

Another minivan passenger, Rugby resident Rita Wentz, 80, was seriously injured in the crash and flown to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

Goeser was not injured in the crash.
