Heart of America Library’s Armstrong receives customer service award
Members of the Rugby Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors presented librarian Robin Armstrong with a customer service award Oct. 20.
Armstrong expressed surprised when Executive Director Laurie Odden joined directors Josh Mattson, Tricia Jundt, Debbie Brossart, and Darcie Rose to present the award.
Armstrong received a mug that read “I am awesome!” and a lapel pin in recognition of her service to library patrons.
“Robin does a good job here,” Library Director Vicki Hoffart told the group. “She goes out of her way for patrons often and always and we appreciate that.”
“I’m kind of humbled,” Armstrong said after she received the award. “I’m the kind of person who struggles to take compliments. I really enjoy my job. A lot of patrons, young and old, have become friends.”
“This means a lot,” Armstrong added. “With what I’ve been going through the last couple of months, it’s extra special.”
Armstrong said she has recently finished treatments for a bout of cancer, which doctors caught early. “I finished five weeks of radiation treatments two weeks ago,” she said. “I don’t have to do chemo, thank goodness.”
“It was five weeks of driving to Minot every day,” she added. “I live in Wolford, so there’s that extra hour. I put about 4,000 miles on my car. But, they caught it early, so that’s kind of the key.”
“Get your mammograms,” she added with a smile.
Armstrong said activities and meetings have been reduced in light of the global COVID pandemic, but some still take place.
One program, funded by the Striving Readers grant for the Rugby Public School District, provides a story hour for children under age 5. Armstrong participates in the program.
“Right now, we have a writers’ group that comes one to three times a month. We have different organizations use our facilities,” Armstrong said. “I enjoy the activities here. Of course, story hour is my favorite,” she added.
