Local student launches state high school volleyball guide

Sue Sitter/PCT Panther volleyball player Brooke Anderson holds a copy of Voller, a North Dakota Class B volleyball guide she put together with the help of her mom and others.

For years, coaches, journalists and fans of high school sports in North Dakota have relied on The Hoopster, a guide published to highlight basketball teams in schools around the state.

The book inspired Brooke Anderson, a Rugby High volleyball player, to put together one for her sport.

VollerND, a guide to North Dakota Class B volleyball teams, rolled out last week just as the season moved into full swing.

“I’ve looked at the Hoopster for years. I’ve really wished there was a version of this for volleyball,” Anderson said.

Anderson, a junior at Rugby High, said she decided to turn her idea into a project and publish a guide to state high school volleyball teams. She said she talked with her mom, Kim, about her idea.

“We finally got the idea to put this together and said, ‘Let’s do it.'” Anderson said.

“I did this with my mom,” Anderson said of her project. “My mom was really a big inspiration for me.”

“We sent notes to all the coaches in the state and they got back to us with information,” Anderson said. “We had Carla Freschette from Devils Lake put the design together. We had BHG of Devils Lake do the printing and Brigitte Greywater help with ideas,” she added.

“This has all the Class B teams,” Anderson said of the guide. “We couldn’t get to the Class A teams this year because it was just too much.”

Although Anderson’s project “started when we were distance learning,” she said, “it took way longer than that and it went into the summer and the beginning of the volleyball season.”

VollerND, titled the “North Dakota Class B Volleyball Premiere Magazine” went on sale in mid-September. Copies are $15 each.

“A lot of the coaches told me they thought it was a really good idea,” Anderson said. “They were excited to see when it came out. I don’t think a lot of people know about it yet because it just got released, and we still have to put advertising out for it. But, otherwise, they like it.”
