Council approves items in special meeting
Several agenda items received approval in a special meeting of the Rugby City Council Monday evening.
– The council approved by a 4-1 vote a general release and separation agreement between the City and Rugby Police Officer Dayton Denning. Councilman Joel Berg, who was the sole no vote, had previously made a motion to deny the agreement, however the motion died for lack of a second.
– The council approved drafting a letter of support for the Main Street Initiative Community Action Plan.
– The council approved both a Community Development Block Grant financial award and documentation of exemption for the city’s comprehensive plan.
– The council approved a letter to concur for the N.D. Department of Transportation’s frontage road project near U.S. Highway 2.
Due to the coronavirus and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention guidelines, some attended the meeting via a conference call line.

Bantam hockey takes second
The Rugby Ice Hawks took second in the Bantam B Gold tournament, held March 13-15.
The Ice Hawks defeated Fargo Maroon 6-5 in their first game of the tournament. The next day, Rugby shut out Richland 4-0 to advanced to the championship.
In the championship round, Rugby fell 4-3 to the Fargo Angels.

19U takes fourth
Earlier this month the Bottineau Stars 19U team competed in the State 19U tournament in Watford City.
The Stars took the first game, winning 7-5 over Richland. The next day, Crosby took Bottineau out of title contention, forcing a game against Wahpeton for third place.
The Stars fell 4-2 against Wahpeton for a fourth place finish.
