2020 hunter education courses to be offered
Just in time for the spring turkey hunting lottery, hunter education courses will be offered at Rugby’s Memorial Hall beginning Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
The courses meet 2020 hunting license requirements for the state of North Dakota.
Instructor Greg Odden said the minimum age for those taking the courses is 11. “If you were born after 1961, you have to take this course. To hunt in North Dakota, you have to take this course.”
Odden said interested hunters must sign up for the courses online at www.gf.nd.gov.
The online sign-up process entails clicking on “Hunter Education,” then “Find a Class,” then “List of Education Courses.” A list of courses available throughout the state appears on the page.
The Rugby courses contain the following information: “Hunter education will meet Feb. 4, 11,18, 25; March 3, 10 and 17 from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Must attend all days of class to pass. If you do not attend, you may lose the opportunity to enroll for a year. Students under the age of 18, please have your guardian come in the first evening of class to sign the student registration card.”
More information, including signing up for the turkey hunting lottery, is on the website. The lottery application period for spring turkey season closes Feb. 12.
Odden said he would be available to answer questions at 776-5986. Corey Geiszler and Joe Tuchscherer will also teach the courses.
