County board approves 2020 soil modifiers
In a special meeting Tuesday morning at the Pierce County Courthouse, members of the Board of County Commissioners approved proposed soil type modifiers and related adjustments for 2020.
According to a handout from Pierce County Tax Director Kelsey Siegler, modifiers included inaccessibility of land due to water, roads, fences, ravines or other factors; rocks affecting land usage; salinity causing reduced production or eliminating crops and grass on land; and wind erosion resulting in a loss of topsoil.
Modifier adjustments were a minimum reduction of 10 percent and a maximum reduction of 40 percent individually applied to soil values. For multiple adjustments, the maximum was 50 percent applied to parcel value. Reductions are applied at a minimum of 10 modified acres per parcel.
