Benefit set to support local school principal in cancer battle

Friends of Kim Anderson will host a pancake breakfast tomorrow at the Rugby Eagles from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm to raise money for her fight against cancer.

Anderson, who serves as principal at Little Flower School and assistant Rugby Panther volleyball coach, has been battling the disease since 2016, when doctors found a tumor in her abdomen, according to a page devoted to Anderson at caringbridge.org.

Tonia Dosch, Mary Ver Steeg Connot and Laura Swanson are organizing the benefit.

“I met her and got a little closer to her three years ago,” Dosch said of Anderson.

“She was a teacher for one of my children for fourth grade at Little Flower School. I met her then. “

Dosch told the Tribune Anderson was “actually pretty reluctant” to have a fundraiser.

“But we just decided that Kim would do anything and everything for us, so it was time for us to step up and do something for her and her family at this point,” Dosch said.

The “we” Dosch speaks of includes Panther volleyball team members, parents, and what Dosch calls Anderson’s “school family” at Little Flower.

The group of friends will serve pancakes, sausage, orange juice and coffee for a free will offering.

Donations may also be made to the Kim Anderson Benefit account at any branch of Ramsey Bank.

Anderson, who has taught in Maddock and Towner, lives with her husband and two children on a farm near York.

“She’s got a heart of gold,” Dosch said of Anderson. “She’d do anything for anybody else, so it’s her turn.”

‘Gratitude, Thanksgiving and Blessings’

The Journey will hold a meeting Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Heart of America Medical Center’s Fox Auditorium.

The meeting, titled “Gratitude, Thanksgiving and Blessings”, will be an evening of fun and friendship. It will also serve to acknowledge November cancer awareness and to celebrate caregivers, as November is National Caregiver month.
