The Rugby Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors’ Bureau will welcome 16 teams from Rugby and across North Dakota to the Rugby Recreation Softball Complex today and tomorrow for their annual tournament.

Chamber Executive Director Darylanna Durkee told the Tribune via an electronic message exchange the round-robin style games begin this morning at 9 a.m. and end at 7 p.m. A second day of tournament play begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. until whenever the final game ends.

“There is a 5 game guarantee for each team. The event is part of the NDASA (now known as USA Softball of North Dakota) Tournament Series,” Durkee said.

The tournament “is not a fundraiser”, Durkee said, noting spectators are welcome to watch the games for free.

Concessions will be available at the complex.

Durkee said Wednesday the Chamber needed three to six volunteers to work at the concession stand. Those interested in possibly volunteering today or tomorrow may message the Rugby Chamber of Commerce and CVB Facebook page.

Although most teams participating in the tournament will travel from other parts of the state to Rugby, Durkee said, “I believe we have three teams from Rugby. (The teams) are all sponsored by businesses in their respective areas.”

Durkee added, “Rugby teams are: Gooseneck Implement, Lee’s Bar and Rugby Eagles.”
