Softball faces HWC at home

Rugby High School’s softball team had their first home game last Thursday at the Rugby Recreation Softball Complex.

In the varsity game, Rugby lost 12-2 to the Harvey-Wells County Hornets. The Hornets got to a two-run advantage early. That advantage turned to 5-0 after two innings.

In the fifth inning, Rugby scored two runs. The first came courtesy of third base woman Zarah-Mae Keenan, and the second via shortstop Karsyn Hager-both of whom got bases on balls after full counts.

The junior high game saw a closer result, with Harvey winning 11-7.

Two days later at a game against Westhope-Newburg-Bottineau, the team saw two consecutive home runs hit in and out of the park. Shortstop Tesha Sobolik hit an inside-the-park homer. Catcher Brooke Anderson followed suit, hitting hers out of the park.

The team was slated to play Harvey-Wells County Friday in Fessenden, and Bottineau Monday on the road.
