The Heart of America Germans from Russia organizing committee has generously sponsored the G.U. Austin Gallery for 2019 with a donation of $4450.00. Each year the PVM brings in or designs an original exhibit to be featured in the Austin Gallery for the season. 2019’s exhibit will focus on the German Russian story. The exhibit will trace the ethnic group’s movement from Europe, through Russia, and into the USA.

The HOA Germans from Russia have been organizing and planning for a new German from Russia building to be built on the grounds of the Museum. Sponsorship of this exhibit is an additional step the organizing committee took in their overall plans to work with the PVM to energize and update their collections and exhibit space. The exhibit will go on display in the Austin Gallery in the Old Main Building for 2019 and be moved to their new building once it is completed in the future. The exhibit will be completely researched, designed, and mounted by the PVM staff focusing on the German Russian immigration story in Europe and Russia. Executive Director Stephanie Steinke says, “We had such a great time doing the WWI exhibit that we are definitely doing another PVM original this year. These exhibits are challenging to build out but so rewarding for our guests and staff. Doing this exhibit, when it hits home to so many people in this area, will be especially rewarding.” The HOA Germans from Russia can be reached on their website or Facebook page. Currently New Land, New Life is on display in the Austin Gallery. This exhibit focuses on Norwegian immigration to the upper midwest. Other upcoming exhibits at the PVM for 2019 include a wedding dress exhibit showcasing dresses from 1890-1940; a dress worn by Queen Victoria of England, and the German Russian experience. Another upcoming exhibit entitled American Farmer is set to open in 2020. Information about all exhibits and hours can be found on the website.
