CITY OF RUGBY: Circle Sanitation to remove cardboard dumpster

By Staff | Jan 25, 2019

A cardboard collection container placed for public use by Circle Sanitation near Rugby’s Family Dollar Store was taken back to the company’s main facility this week.

Rugby City Auditor Jennifer Stewart told the Tribune Circle Sanitation placed the collection container “at their own cost; it was not in their contract with the city.”

Stewart said the collection container was popular with Rugby residents, and Circle Sanitation underestimated how often it would be filled.

“They were surprised by how much cardboard was there,” she said. The container needed to be emptied more frequently than the company expected, and emptying it meant trips to Circle Sanitation’s collection facility outside of Glenburn. Stewart said the 300-mile round trip took 6 hours.

Stewart said Circle Sanitation told her that the company would evaluate providing a container for cardboard collection in the future. “That might depend on when they get a waste transfer station locally.”

Although Family Dollar Store and other local businesses will still have containers to collect cardboard, they will not be for public use. Stewart said residents seeking ways to dispose of their cardboard may call the City of Rugby at 776-6181 to order an additional residential tote.
