More charges filed after high-speed pursuit

A high-speed pursuit that ended in northern Pierce County October 24 has resulted in even more charges inside jail for one of the three people taken into custody.

Pierce County Sheriff and Heart of America Correctional and Treatment Center administrator Mike Graner updated the Pierce County Commission at its regular meeting last Thursday, describing the event.

According to an earlier sheriff’s dept. release, Jordan Olson, 26, Rolla; Shanaia Counts, 25, Cando; and Fernando St. Pierre, 39, Dunseith, were arrested after attempting to hide in a cornfield to elude law enforcement agencies from the Rolla Police Department, Rolette County Sheriff’s Office and the Turtle Mountain Bureau of Indian Affairs. Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies joined the chase as it moved across the county line.

Graner told the commissioners one of the three had hidden overnight after two were taken into custody. The individual was discovered the next morning and arrested.

Graner added the person arrested the next morning attempted to smuggle a controlled substance into the correctional facility before officers discovered the substance in the individual’s possession.

Siegler later told the Tribune, “I’m not comfortable releasing the name of the individual (involved in the incident) yet. There are too many moving parts in this investigation, however, this individual has been charged.”

Other October arrests by the sheriff’s department include three for driving under suspension, three for DUI, four for possession of drug paraphernalia, one for possession of a controlled substance, one for tampering with evidence, and four for false information to law enforcement.

Charges filed in connection with the October 24 incident include one for criminal mischief, one for fleeing in a motor vehicle, one reckless endangerment, three for refusal to halt, and one possession of a stolen vehicle.
