Charitable cruise
Some 26 cars of all varieties toured around the northern Pierce County area last month for a good cause in the Rugby Car Club’s monthly cruise.
The club’s Mike Black told the Tribune the cruise began at Rugby’s Northside Lounge Saturday, October 13, and followed a route to Wolford, on to Rolette, Willow City and Towner. The cruisers returned to Rugby, meeting at the Coffee Cottage on Highway 2.
The cruise was held to raise money for local charities.
“We raised $1,100 dollars,” Black noted. After a meeting last week, the club decided to donate the proceeds to three local charities.
Black presented checks to the charities in a short ceremony at North Star Community Credit Union Monday.
The Rugby Fire Department Auxiliary received a check for $500; North Star Community Credit Union’s “Bags of Hope” program for cancer patients received $300, and the Lyric Theater received a check for $200.
Black described the cars participating in the club’s monthly cruises as “a little bit of everything old cars, new cars, expensive cars, regular cars.”
The car club hosts cruises throughout the summer and early fall months. “Usually May through October,” Black said.
The Rugby Car Club meets every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at Rugby’s NAPA Auto Parts store.
