Rollover crash injures two

An 18-year-old Cando woman was cited for care required in operating a motor vehicle following a rollover crash Monday north of Anamoose.

Evelyn Sims and a passenger, Morgan Weddell, 18, Max, were traveling west on ND Highway 19 in a 2005 GM Envoy and approaching the intersection of 16th Ave NE, according to a release from the ND Highway Patrol. Sims missed her turn and continued west on 42nd St. She lost control of her vehicle and overturned in the north ditch. The Envoy came to rest in the ditch with its top facing south.

Sims and Weddell were transported by Harvey Ambulance to Trinity Hospital in Minot with non-life-threatening injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.

Heitkamp to stop in Rugby today

United States Senator Heidi Heitkamp’s “Bring it Home, Heidi” bus tour will make a stop in Rugby at Dakota Farms on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The tour, which began in Fargo November 1, features Democratic Party notables such as former Vice President Joe Biden and former North Dakota legislators Kent Conrad and Earl Pomeroy.

Heitkamp and Conrad will be on hand to meet locals on the Rugby stop.

Northern Plains Electric announces scholarship

Northern Plains Electric and Basin Electric Cooperatives are offering a $1,000 scholarship to a dependent of a member of Northern Plains Electric Cooperative for the 2019-2020 school year.

Each of the 141 rural electric cooperatives that make up Basin Electric, including Northern Plains Electric Cooperative, receives $1000.00 from Basin Electric to award a scholarship to a dependent of a consumer of Northern Plains who will enroll as a freshman in college in the fall of 2019.

The scholarship program, which is in its twenty-eighth year, recognizes and encourages the academic achievements of students in the region. It also serves as an investment in the economic future of rural areas.

Each member cooperative will select the scholarship winner from their consumers’ dependents applicant pool.

Applicants for the scholarship must be high school seniors enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical School.

Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on a combination of SAT/ACT scores and overall grade-point average, work experience, participation in school and community activities, a personal statement of career goals, a written recommendation by a third party and an essay describing how a cooperate can build a culture to best serve its members.

Scholarship applications for the 2019-2020 school year must be postmarked by January 31, 2019 and winners will be announced after March 1.
